Class cancelled due to Covid 19 City closure, forced compliance.
Class meets 7:00 pm to 9:30, Tuesday evenings for 6 weeks.
OGMS instructor Kirsten Meeker leads this class. Adults, 18 years and older only.
Please note, Class is full at 5, registration will close when that number is reached.
COVID 19 specific information: ALL class attendees must provide current proof of full vaccination (incl. booster) and will be required to bring & wear properly, an N95 rated mask during class.
Attendees will be scanned for temperature upon arrival, and will be expected to remove themselves from attendance if they have an elevated temperature, become ill, or are exposed to Covid 19.
Attendees are welcome to return if they provide
A) a negative test result by a professional antigen (Ag) or PCR/NAAT COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 test or
B) by TeleHealth verified antigen (Ag) or PCR/NAAT COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 home testing.
There will be no exceptions for deviation from these requirements.
Class Description and pertinent information for attendees, please read:
Learn the skills necessary to construct silver jewelry. Students will be introduced to the concepts of jewelry construction; design planning, sawing, forming, torch soldering, bezel setting and finishing. A bezel set cabochon pendant project is taught. The equipment necessary to complete the basic project is provided by OGMS for students to use. Students are welcome to bring their own equipment- it should be clearly marked. Returning students may follow the project or work on their own projects with guidance from the instructor as time allows.
A safety orientation is conducted on the first day of class and cannot be made up if missed. The first 3 weeks of class impart key information and should not be missed by new students.
Student Silver Materials Kit– This fee varies due to market fluctuations, is estimated at $40-50. Actual costs may vary by a few dollars. Only new students may purchase a kit. Kits will be available on the first class meeting and can be paid for in cash, no checks please.
NOTE: The Silver Materials kit is sufficient to complete the beginning project, and if conservative at least one additional project. Returning students will need to source and purchase their own metals and stones for additional projects.
Classes are conducted by volunteer members of the Oxnard Gem & Mineral Society, under the the auspices of the City of Oxnard, Dept. of Recreation.
